The reusability is nice but it is way too porous I have even tried using a french press grind, which obviously makes horrible drop coffee but even with that courseness grinds still come through the filter.
The old one still works fine but it's over 3 years old and I figured I'd give this a try. I did not notice any difference in performance (coffee flavor, etc) with this filter vs. my old $10 cheap gold filter. It is, however, constructed better than the cheap ones and includes a height adapter for large capacity coffeemakers (mine's a 10-cup and it just about fits without the adapter). In spite of the sturdier construction, in my opinion it does not warrant 3X the price.
The Swiss Gold filters are not cheap like the Braun filters at Walmart, but worth the money. We had an old Swiss Gold filter that was labelled "Braun by Swiss Gold" for Braun coffee filters and after 2 decades of use, it developed cracks in the mesh - possibly from careless washing or banging it to get the grounds out. It should last a long time with gentle cleaning - no banging on the edge of a trash can or compost container to dump the old grounds. I was frustrated by the new Braun filters available - they are gold colored metal mesh but don't last and rust quickly. After a little research, I discovered that Swiss Gold filters still fit. Clive Coffee had the best price on the internet thru Amazon and shipped very quickly. The filter is great and I will be looking at other products sold by Clive Coffee.
After viewing other reviews, I was a bit worried about spending the money for this, but it arrived in fine condition with no dents and was not misshapen. I have taken care not to "bang" the grounds out of the filter, as even the cheaper baskets with thinner and less rigid gold mesh will separate at the seams if care is not taken. I'll see how long it holds up, but I'm pleased with it so far after about a month.
quick delivery. Clive Coffee of Portland, OR had the best price.
It is always delicious. When I visit my good friend in Portland, OR, upon request, he always makes me a cup of coffee.
He uses an old Krups drip maker with cone shaped filter basket. In that basket was a Swissgold filter. I tried using the same coffee, took water from his tap, watched his measurements of ingredients( hard to do as it is by eye), but each step copied left something missing.
Finally, I looked at his hardware. free shipping.
and being local I hope to visit there soon.Just finished my morning cup of coffee made with the Swissgold filter- ready to go.
